The Global Women and Technology Initiative (GWT-I) is an initiative of the International Taskforce on Women and Information and Communication Technology (ITF) and its basic aims to measurably and significantly increase the participation of women in technology.  

The GWT-I goal is to set up 10 Regional Centres around the world based on a multi-stakeholder organization and a customized 'Bold Global Multi-Stakeholder Strategy and Action-plan to bring about a major break-through in regard to women's participation in the knowledge-based economy' adopted 9-10th of December in Kuala Lumpur.

 

From the 30th of September 2008 the ECWT chairs the rotating leadership of the GWT Network.

The Asia-Pacific Centre for Women and Technology  (APCWT) held its start-up meeting in april 2008. The centre is hosted by CRIC - Center for Regional Innovation and Competitiveness, University of Ballarat.

The Latin American Centre on Gender and the Information Society was launched on the 17th of May 2009. The centre is hosted by the UNESCO Regional Chair on Women in Science and Technology in Latin America, and FLACSO, Buenos Aires, Argentina
