Development co-operation with South Africa

Ten years will soon have passed since the first democratic elections were held in South Africa in 1994. These marked the end of decades of oppression under apartheid and a start was made on the work of establishing a democratic society.

Since the 1960s Sweden has been providing aid for democratic development. What was at the outset secret aid to the opponents and victims of apartheid has developed into far-reaching development co-operation.
