Gender equality is not only a basic human right, but its achievement has enormous socio-economic ramifications. Empowering women fuels thriving economies, spurring productivity and growth. And Because the world is changing. You cannot look at what is happening in North Africa and not see that countries that rely on promises of “stability” — based on unchanging leadership and rigid conceptions of social and gender roles – are no longer sustainable. The frustrated dreams and aspirations of those left out have thrust millions into the streets — women alongside men, demanding opportunities to lead and contribute to the revitalization of their societies and economies.
