The research team of Educational Research and Evaluation of the Institute of Applied and Computational Mathematics of the Foundation of Research and Technology (http://www.iacm.forth.gr) is organizing a workshop titled “Addressing gender stereotypes and gender attitudes in the assessment of women ‘s work” in Athens in 3d & 4th March 2011.
The workshop is an integral part of the genSET project which aim to increase the capacity of science institutions to respond to policy recommendations by improving their ability to identify and put in place effective Gender Action Plans that will strengthen their role in maintaining excellence in the European science system. This will be achieved by facilitating a sustainable, collaborative dialogue among gender experts and science leaders to agree on practical guidelines for implementing action plans for gender equality in the existing institutional mechanisms. The debate brings together 100 leading European science stakeholder institutions (Universities, Research Institutions, European Funding Agencies, Government and European policy bodies, etc) a group of internationally recognized specialists on gender and eight European strategic decision-makers amongst which are Peter Main, Director of education and science in Institute of Physics (UK), Mille Millnet, Recktor of Linkoping (Sweden), Rosalie Zobel, Former Director of the European Commission DG INFSO.
The workshop “Addressing gender stereotypes and gender attitudes in the assessment of women ‘s work”, concerns research institutions all over Europe that want to implement new or improve Gender Action Plans at their organisations. This workshop aims to facilitate each organisation to reflect on its capacity needs for the implementation of a Gender Action Plan leading to elimination of gender stereotypes and attitudes that have negative impact on the assessment of women’s work.
An online preparatory phase is foreseen before the workshop (January-February) so as to enhance each participating institution capacity to outline its expected benefits from the implementation of the Gender Action Plan. Possible implications, discrepancies and suspending factors will be examined.
Participation in the workshop is free. Participants need to cover only their travel and accommodation costs.
