A cookery book for citizens participation

The city of Enschede wants to activate citizens and entrepreneurs to participate in the Enschede society. The citizens(organisations) and entrepreneurs(organisations) have to have their own role in the different processes. What is the best recipe to let citizens and entrepreneurs participate?

cookerybook_2006.10.06-15.06.34.jpgTo give an answer to this question the city of Enschede made a cookery book for citizens participation. Because citizens participation is a difficult process we made this cookery book as a helping hand. In this cookery book you can find recipes/examples of participation projects. Next to these examples there are ingredients/tips from someone who does a lot of work in participation.

An example of a participation process (in Enschede East) is the restoration of a historical gate with the help of citizens and students. The gate is an entree of a country seat from a former textile baron. Students of a building school build the gate and the pillars next to the gate. Citizens painted the gate and children of a primary school cleaned the path.Together they restorated the old gate and now the entree of the country seat is visited a lot.examplegate_2006.10.06-15.13.57.bmp

The citizens themselves and departments of the city of Enschede can learn from this cookery book.

When you start a process where citizens are involved you can look in the book and search for the best example. However, every situation is different, you can learn the basis of citizens' participation and you can use the different examples/recipes and tips/ingredients to make the right dinner/choice!
