A new book on gender and education to overcome stereotypes
The book "Educating with difference" has been presented in Venice on the 3rd December in a very participated conference. The book, edited by Ivana Padoan and Maria Sangiuliano, is the outcome of a longlasting collaboration between the Women Resources' Centre of the Province of Venice and the University Ca' Foscari. It is a collection of essays on the issue of gender mainstreaming in educational practices, research and policies mainly focused on secondary education and adolescents, from Italy but also from UK and Ireland. It draws together reaserches on teen agers' gender identity formation, on gender and masculinities, teachers' training and educational policies, the emerging in some countries of counter feminist cultures based on the issue of the unachieving boys and successful girls, the need to integrate care issues in education. Some of the essays critically reflects upon practices developed within the EQUAL PONTI projects with secondary schools by the Province of Venice and the University of Ca' Foscari itself, peer education projects against gender stereotypes and counselling activities on career and professions.
