At the opening event of Interieur 06, Flemish Minister of Economy, Mme Fientje Moerman announced that Kortrijk will become the Competence Pool for Product Development and Industrial Design. This means that companies, service SME's, specialized high schools and knowledge centres will be united to strenghten the position of the Flemish SME's. They will have to work together in a platform and they have to create and stimulate product innovation. They also have to give advise on demand and be an incubator for entreprises and they have to stimulate research.

The Flemish Government pays 1.915.000 Euro for the next 30 months. Entreprises pay 20% of that amount. 22 people will get temporary contracts and 3 people will work on this project on a permanent basis.
