Policy vision for urban development in Flanders for the next 15-20 years.
The Flemisch Community published 19/11/ 2003 a White Book on urban policy 'The century of the city' . The White Paper was presented for the general public through the organisation of 14 city meetings in the period October 2004- April 2005. The White Book inspires also cities as Kortrijk in their vision about the development of Kortrijk
The book is the result of two years of work, which started with background analyses and discussions between ,politicians, academics, experts and other stakeholders, a cross-sectoral task force group.
The idea behind the work carried out is to give cities and life in cities in Flanders a new dynamic character. The core idea in the White Book is how cities can be governed and transformed best to develop and to lift up all their social, economic, cultural and environmental potentials, so that Flanders will be in the forefront of sustainable development in Europe.
The book consists of 2 parts. Part 1 contains the content of the urban policy. Part 2 describes the practice of planning and administrative design.
