Gender Pay Gap: a European report

On July 25th the European Commission has presented to the European Parliament, the Council, the European Economic and Social Committee and the
Committee of the Regions, a Communication titled "Tackling the pay gap between women and men". The report explains the meaning of gender pay gap specifying as there are considerable differences between the Member States in this regard: ita ranges  from 4% (MT) to 25% (EE, CY). However, it is said, "the pay gap is not an indicator of the overall equality between women and men since it only concerns salaried persons. It must be looked at in conjunction with other indicators linked to the labour market". The following chapters give some hints about how to improve the legal frameworks to tacke the problem and explains what the Commission itself is going to do in the the year 2008 and what is recommended to  Member States and Employers. Annexes include definitions, indicators and facts and figures.
