One stop shop in child care
Often parents have problems finding a place to drop their children when there are school holidays or when they go to their work. Or even when they want to follow a learning session in order to find a job. In an ancient nunnery, the OCMW and the City of Kortrijk set up a new Day Care Centre which will be finished half 2006. Thus most of the day care initiatives will be clustered in one-stop-shop. In 2004, 35 nannies took care of 289 children during 26.000 days. It is the option to go on creating places for children who come out of different social layers of the population and give them support in education. In addition to this and with the support of Kanaal 127, Michèle Dejaegher (aged 31) developed a formula for decentralised mini-day care centres in neighbourhoods. This creates the possibility in different areas of Kortrijk to take care of 8 to 22 babies from 0 to 3 years old. The project is a social economy project, because each mini-centre creates 4 jobs for persons who have the right skills, but were not able to use them before.
